About The Purple Ball

The Purple Ball was created in 2012 as the main annual awareness and fundraising event to support the essential work done by Iris House Children’s Hospice.

All the proceeds raised at the evening ensure that Iris House is able to continue providing quality respite care for special needs children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and supporting their families, free of charge.

The generous supporters of the Purple Ball cover the various costs of the evening so that all profits can go directly to the care of the special needs children and their families registered with Iris House. Currently, Iris House has 542 registered children.

The Purple Ball is hosted every August at the legendary 5- Star Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town. The evening’s festivities start with a stylish champagne and canape reception hosted at the fountain courtyard, our guests are then welcomed into the magnificent ballroom for an evening of socializing, fine dining, award-winning wines, and spoils. The highlight of the evening is the Purple Ball auction, an auction like no other you have attended. A host of luxury, must-have items makes up the auction line up. Auctioneer supreme Stef Olivier makes sure that the bidding is fast and fun. Each bidding paddle features the face of an Iris House child to ensure our guests relate to the cause they are supporting.

But the evening’s festivities don’t stop there as its then time for a delicious dessert and live entertainment. End the evening in style with your partner on our dance floor.

Every guest at the Purple Ball is warmly welcomed as part of the Iris House family and is personally invited by the founder Sue to visit the Iris House hospice to see for themselves the heartwarming work done there. Sue is also on hand to answer any questions you may have about Iris House and its services.

We hope that you will join us for the next Iris House Purple Ball in 2021 and become part of our ever-growing family.
